Position Paper to the HLPF 2024 - Boosting the 2030 Agenda: decent work and social justice as drivers of sustainable development

Workers and Trade Unions Major Group: Sectoral Position Paper to the High-Level Political Forum 2024

This document by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) reflects the position developed by the ITUC on behalf of the Workers’ and Trade Union Major Group on the five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be reviewed at the 2024 High-Level Political Forum (SDG 1, SDG 2, SDG 13, SDG 16 and SDG 17).

The ITUC highlights the urgent need to address the stagnation and regression in achieving the SDGs and stresses the importance of investing in SDG 8 (on sustainable growth and decent work) to accelerate progress on the other SDGs, including those under review.

Moreover, the ITUC includes a series of recommendations, framed within workers’ call for a New Social Contract, for integrating labour rights and social dialogue into UN processes. These recommendations support the UN Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions, and advocate for global financial reforms to support sustainable and inclusive development, among other objectives.
